HALCYON

The halcyon (hal-see-yun) is my go-to board to throw in the car for a beach day or most days under head high at Trestles. Great for getting in early for some beachbreak tubes or beating the crowd with howling fast top-to-bottom surfing on a more open face wave. The accelerated curve behind the keel fins tightens the turning radius while still keeping plenty of planing area throughout the majority of the board. This curve along with a subtle flat/single/double/flat bottom contour and foiled-yet-relaxed rails produces a playful and forgiving board that still has a lively zest to it. Glass on fins only for maximum drive and responsiveness.

SHAWTY

This “model” is less of a model and more of ways to achieve and seek progressive surfing through the means of asymmetric outlines and fin clusters. these boards can be tailored from small or big surf, normal (clear, thruster-esque, subtle asymmetry) to funky (resin tints, snub noses, unconventional bottom contours and channels, exaggerated asymmetry etc).

the “twuad” fin setup (popularized by Ekstrom, Burch, Young, et. al) can achieve more vertical lines than a conventional upright twin, but still maintains the efficient straightline speed and rail to rail sensations that are beloved by twin fin enthusiasts.

SOAPBOX DERBY

If there has been any board more influential to my surfing (both short and long), it is this board by a mile. Built from a desire to wiggle and a boredom of shoulder noseriding, the Soapbox Derby loves to seat you in the true pocket of the wave and provide a thrill even on the smaller days. The narrow nose and full-roll bottom provide the essential trim, slip, and slide vital to tapping into the energy and flow of the wave. At the same time, The foiled nose and tail, pinched rails, and defined incut nose concave allow you to lock in for true pocket noserides and push hard on rail with confidence. Inspired heavily by Young, McTavish, Keogh, and the Aussie shaping community at large.
